Project Overview: Teaming up with the Brookings High School, Builders FirstSource is proud to play a role in helping the next generation of craftswomen and craftsmen find their passion for building.
The Brookings Building Trade class allows juniors and seniors of Brookings High School to experience and actively participate in the full build of a new construction home. Starting from the ground up, students working for multiple hours per day will bring a new home to life in the 2018-2019 school year.
For almost 20 years, Builders FirstSource (formerly ProBuild and UBC) has been an active partner in providing building materials and support for the class. Under course instructor Kale Skogen, now in his 3rd year teaching the program, students will complete the class having both classroom and actual experience in home building.
The 2018-2019 home is unique in that often the homes will be pre-sold. For this year’s build, the home is being built as a spec home and being sold by Builders FirstSource of Brookings.
Upon sale, the finishings can be customized by the future homeowner should it be sold before the building materials are installed. For example, if the home sells before the siding is ordered, the new homeowner would be able to select the color and materials of siding specific to their desires.
